This past Friday the Woodberry varsity squash team traveled to Episcopal to face off against their long-time rivals, the Maroon. The Tigers compete against the Maroon twice a year, with each match being full of fierce competition. Last year, Woodberry defeated the Maroon 5-4 in their home match but lost 4-5 when they traveled to Episcopal. However, this year, the Tigers would prove to be the superior squad in the first match versus the Maroon.
Woodberry started off well with quick 3-game victories by Jay O’Keefe ’22 and Sam Long ’23, while Eli Drake ’20 and Hunter Groton ’22 earned tough victories in a 4-game win. Then, Woodberry ended any hope of a comeback for Episcopal by winning the remaining five matches, with the matches of Nick Reynolds ’22, Charles Innes ’22, Graham Roberts ’23, and Luke Edwards ’20 all going to five, hard-fought games.
The Tigers are now 5-3 on the season and look to secure another win against St. Christopher’s on Tuesday.
