The Varsity Swimming team is going into Christmas Break and its annual trip to South Florida with some momentum after two home meets. In a home Relay Carnival against Paul VI, Flint Hill, St. Albans, St. John Paul the Great, Christchurch, among others, the senior Aqua-Tigers led the way. Jack Stelter ‘20 finished second in the 25-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 25 free, Kyle Floyd ‘20 won the 25-yard butterfly and 25-yard freestyle, and Ben Lundy ‘20 came in second in the 25 fly. Other highlights from the Relay Carnival include Gavin Newcamp ‘21, Alec Desmond ‘23, Drew Lytle ‘22, and Jack Stelter finishing fourth in the 300-yard 4×75 medley relay, Floyd, Stelter, Logan McNabb ‘23, and Miles Miller ‘21 taking fifth in the 100-yard freestyle relay, and Thomas Loebsack ‘22, Will Fletcher ‘21, Floyd, and Newcamp earning second place in the 5×50 yard pyramid relay.
Then on December 10, the Varsity Swimming team defeated the Collegiate Cougars 96-74 at home. Highlights from this meet include Jack Stelter and Gavin Newcamp taking first and second place, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle, Kyle Floyd winning the 200 IM and 100 fly, Ben Lundy and Josh Campbell ‘21 coming in second in the 50 free, and Stelter earning first in the hundred free. The Tigers found success in every event all afternoon and will look to continue that success after their Christmas Break training trip when they return for the Blacksburg Bruins Invitational on January 4th. The Tigers have their first home meet of 2020 scheduled for January 11th.
