Woodberry is gaining momentum fast, and it showed on Saturday in a 48-22 beatdown against Fork Union. Playing at home for the final time this season, the Tigers sprinted out to a 27-0 lead and never looked back.
Woodberry’s offense was led by running back Donovan Baker ‘22, who finished with 164 yards and four touchdowns. Woodberry also found success in the passing game under a new dual-quarterback system. Ethan Weber ‘20 completed two of his three passes for 37 yards and two touchdowns, while Ben Locklear ‘21 was five for nine with 167 yards and a touchdown. Luke Blundin ‘20, Staley Wideman ‘20, and Peter Hutchinson ‘20 all caught touchdowns for the Tigers.
On the other side of the ball, Woodberry’s defense had another lockdown performance. The Forestmen held the Blue Devils to seven points until late in the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach. Caleb “TK” Hodges ‘22 and J Banzet ‘20 each recorded an interception and Jianni Woodson-Brooks ‘21 led the unit with 11 tackles.
Woodberry is looking good heading into The Game against Episcopal on November 9. The Tigers are on a two-game win streak against teams who were both tied atop the Prep League and outscored them by a total of 36 points.
