Friday marked one of the busiest days on Woodberry’s campus this year. In addition to a full day of classes and three soccer games, members of the Board of Trustees met for the Chairman’s Retreat and several Regional Alumni Associations gathered to discuss upcoming events.
Most notably, though, the school celebrated the opening of the new Hayworth Lobby in the Walker Building. The dedication service featured speeches from the School Chaplain Rev. Tyler Montgomery, the Senior Prefect Eli Drake ’20, Headmaster Dr. Byron Hulsey ’86, and Board Chairman Mr. Sumner S. Finch ’75.
The lobby is named after alumnus David Hayworth ’47, who made “an extraordinary gift in honor and admiration of J. Carter Walker, the school’s first headmaster.”
“Mr. Hayworth, thank you so much for the opportunities you have given our community,” Drake said. “I think all of us know just how important it is for us to have this space as a lasting impression for those on our campus for the first time.”
