In two strong appearances this week, the Woodberry JV soccer team moves to 2-0 on the season.
In their first match this past Tuesday, the Tigers faced the Wofpack of Saint John Paul the Great. Duncan Connell struck early with a goal to give the Tigers momentum. Throughout the rest of the game, the Tigers moved the ball well and goals from Karsten Graham (2), Robbie Handelsman (2), and Kodi Udochukwu ensured the victory over the Wolfpack with a final score of 6-0.
A very strong performance from the midfield of Connell, James Kirby, Udochukwu, Aidan McManamey, and Mills allowed for the Tigers to have a great amount of chances to score. Goalies Pierce Kiser and Ben Monroe were only given a couple of shots because of an amazing showing from the defensive backs. The dominance of returning JV player McManamey was incredibly helpful for the Tigers to move the ball and get stops on defense.
In their second game, the Tigers faced off at home against the St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes Saints and remained disciplined against a fundamentally sound team. Another very strong showing from the defense propelled the Tigers to a 5-1 victory over the Saints. Charles Innes stopped multiple attacks as did Nick Reynolds. Winston Smith, Kirby, Handelsman and McManamey all recorded assists in the match. Goals from Graham (3), Kirby, and Michael Johnstone gave the Tigers a 5-1 lead over the Saints.
The Woodberry JV soccer team looks very strong heading into just their third week together. Next week, the Tigers will face the Maroon of Episcopal.
