This Thursday assembly marked the first full-fledged all-school assembly of the year. Alumni faculty members Ansel Sanders ’00, Frank Tallman ’94, and Frazier Stowers ’04 touched on life at Woodberry in the recent past, and the changes that have come with time. They expressed nostalgia for the occasions when following seated meal, a large portion of the student body would gather on the lawn outside the residence, playing trash can lacrosse, football, and other games. The speakers blamed technology and the new location of the dining hall for causing these gatherings to fade out of existence.
The speakers also shared some of their positive memories from their times as students. Stowers, for example, talked about how he and his roommate would go fly fishing at the river every Sunday morning.
Following the speeches, Carter Krusz ’20 gave a humorous introduction to the “Meme Team,” the arm of The Oracle humor section, which has had its finest work displayed on the school’s digital monitors in the dining hall and academic buildings.
The assembly was concluded with the Boy’s Prayer, as is tradition.
