The Woodberry Forest Varsity Golf team won their 31st Virginia Prep League title at Old Trail Country Club. The Tigers had a final score of 307 which beat out the nearest team, Trinity Episcopal, by three shots. Benny Haggin was the co-medalist and lead the team with an even par round, 72. Closely following, Hughes Edwards fired his low round of the season at 1 over par, 73. Both Haggin and Edwards received All Prep distinctions. VI formers Jack Stein and Matthew Durham rounded out the scores with 80 and 82.

Going into the Prep League tournament, the Tigers had a record of 8-5 and weren’t favored to win. Captain Stein was confident in the team, since the Tiger’s had a weak start to the season.

The win at the Prep League means the Tigers have an automatic bid into the state tournament, which is this upcoming Monday.

“All the teams going to want to beat us,” said Stein after the win, “But as long as we post solid scores we will be in the mix to win states.”
