Varsity Basketball Starts Season 0-4

Taft Gantt ’20

After a tough four games to start the season, the Tigers have yet to win a game. With a month until Prep League play begins, Woodberry has four games until Christmas Break to bounce back from their not ideal start.

Woodberry tipped-off the season with two close games in the Dick Gym. In front of a loud student section, the Tigers were nearly edged out by the Central Virginia Disciples 44-56 and Benedictine 43-48. After that, the Tigers went on the road to Highland where they lost 46-89. The following day, Woodberry hosted Landon and lost the contest 50-69.

“The first thing the team has to do is build chemistry,” said Head Coach Craig Dawson. “The only way to do that is talk to with one another about the game. Right now, they get along great, but haven’t gelled when it’s comes to basketball. Secondly, we need to stick to the fundamentals of what we practice and transfer it to game play.  All in all, we need to become more disciplined in our attack. We must be patient and let things develop instead of forcing the issue. Lastly, we just have to believe. I think these guys want to be good, but right now, they just need to let go and believe.”
