The Woodberry JV Soccer Team kicked off against one of the better teams in the state, St. Christopher’s School. On a chilly Friday afternoon the Tigers lost 0-3.

The weather seemed to have impacted the Tigers for the first part of the game. St. Chris was able to possess the ball while the Tigers could not hold onto the ball well in the midfield. St. Chris pressured the Tigers’ defense eventually leading to a goal within the first 20 minutes of the game. Defender Sam Thomas put in a great effort, but was just short of the Saints forward as he finished. As the Tigers kicked off again they reverted back to how they were before they conceded a goal. However, they were able to hold the St. Chris off for the rest of the half keeping them at one goal.

Although it was quite cold and raining, it seemed as though a fire lit up inside the Tigers. They had started moving the ball around exceptionally well in the midfield making it a challenge for the St. Chris to get the ball. Unfortunately, they gained control of the ball and the Tigers’ defense was not able to stop the Saints’ forward who took a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Jonah Marshall made an amazing save, but a forward came and put the ball in the back of the net.

This is where Woodberry started to lose their momentum again. St. Chris started to possess the ball much better and stronger. About another 10 minutes passed before the Saints scored their final goal.

St. Chris defeated the Tigers 0-3 in their last home game of the season, dropping the Tigers overall record to 3-1-5. JV soccer travels to Charlottesville next Tuesday to take on St. Anne’s Belfield for the Tigers’ last game of the season.
