This past Tuesday, the Woodberry Varsity Soccer team blew out the Benedictine Cadets 7-0 in a thrilling state matchup in Richmond.
Starting off slow, the Tigers only able to put away two goals in the first half from Hugh Monsted and Max Richter. The Tigers had more opportunities to score, but the focus was not there; later in the second half, the team turned it around by scoring an additional five goals on the Cadets.
The Tigers were led by seniors Max Weaver, who ended with two goals and two assists, Max Richter, who had three goals, and Walker Antonio with one goal and one assist.
“We should have scored an additional eight goals,” VI-Form captain Max Weaver said, “But I am very happy with the win. We needed this considering our struggles in the previous couple of weeks.”
Additionally, our defenders, VI-Former Dylan Walmsley and V-Former Jack Sloan, had chances to move up into the attack as strikers. Although they did not put a goal in the back of the net, their brick wall defense helped IV former goalies Zack Woods and Reed Taws secure the clean sheet.
The Woodberry Forest team needed this big win to gain confidence and momentum headed into their first Prep League game this Friday against St. Anne’s Belfield School at home. Going into this game, Woodberry is now 3-4-2 on the season and are looking for a win to propel them further up in the state rankings.
