Playing in Johnson Stadium for the first time of the year, Woodberry hosted Landon School this Saturday in front of a big Woodberry crowd. The Tigers fought hard against a very talented Bears team, but lost 37-47.

“Playing in front of that energetic crowd,” New Boy V-Former, Mathieu Pelletier said, “For the first time was an amazing experience. All the boys, teachers, and faculty were there in the bleachers to cheer. That really shows how tight of a community Woodberry is.”

Woodberry got off to a slow start and was down 27-6 midway through the second quarter. However, a 28-yard touchdown pass from Ben Locklear to George Pettegrew gave the Tigers the momentum heading into halftime. That momentum carried over into the third quarter as the Tigers cut the Bears’ lead to three points. After a 42-yard touchdown pass to DeQuece Carter and one-yard touchdown run by Rhys Logan, the score was 24-27.

Landon then pulled away extending its lead to 20 points led by, Harvard commit, Jelani Machen. Woodberry did not give up, however, scoring two touchdown passes to Carter. Unfortunately, it would not be enough, and the game finished just after the rain began to fall.

The Tigers offense was led by Carter who finished with 188 yards and four touchdowns.

The home crowd is what keeps me pumped!” said Carter. “After scoring and coming to celebrate with the cheerleaders, fans, and teammates, I feel so energized. The Landon secondary was good, but we were executing on offense and it was a lot of fun.IMG_4131

Ben Locklear threw for 418 yards and four touchdowns to give him 12 on the season. Rhys Logan also found the end zone for the first time as a Tiger off a one-yard run.

Woodberry is back in action Friday, October 5th, when it hosts Prep-League rival Collegiate at 4pm in Johnson Stadium.
