The JV Tigers took on St. Chris to kick off their season. On the first drive of the game, the Tigers offense, led by quarterback Clark Warren ‘21, took the ball all the way down the field where Warren threw a 14-yard touchdown to Dawson Chitwood ‘21.
The extra point was missed wide right; special teams would be a reoccurring issue all night. Unfortunately, this would be the last time the Tigers put points on the board during the first half. St. Chris had the lead going into halftime 13-6. After halftime it was more of the same, and the Tigers gave up 14 points in the third quarter on their way to a 27-13 defeat.
“I’m very happy with the effort I got from every member of the team,” said head coach Mrs. Mills. “We gotta feed Malik Holley and make holes for him. I think it is all about the offensive line doing their job.”
Holley ‘21 is the offensive workhorse. He carried the ball 18 times for 152 yards. Last year on Bengal, he ran for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. Warren, the team captain, threw two touchdown passes to Chitwood.
“We all hustled hard,” said Warren. “We gave it 110%, and I’m proud of that.”
Woodberry Forest moves to 0-1 and will take on Saint John Paul the Great high school on September 28.
