On Tuesday, October 10, the Woodberry Forest Tigers defeated the Collegiate Cougars on the soccer pitch with a score of 4-1 at home.
Opening with a goal in the first two minutes, Collegiate started the game hot. Woodberry quickly rebounded and responded with four unanswered goals. Assisted by Saeed Abokor, fifth former Max Weaver scored first for the Tigers, followed by fourth former Alex Forward’s header goal assisted by fourth former Jack Sloan. Captain sixth former Andrew Jacobs went on to score unassisted, followed by Chuksi Emuwa from Tadiwa Sithole.
As Collegiate tends to succeed offensively, Woodberry’s ability to hold the Cougars to merely one goal is a fantastic accomplishment by the Tigers defense and midfielders.
Sloan commented that after Collegiate scored their one goal, “We ended up dominating the remaining minutes.” He went on to say that the win was a “whole team effort,” and that “we all came together and worked for each other.”
The Tigers improved to a record of 7-3-2 after their victory over the Cougars, and they have three games over the course of the next week. On Friday, October 13, Woodberry soccer faces off against John Paul the Great, and on Tuesday, October 20, they play Fork Union Military Academy followed by Trinity Episcopal School on Saturday, October 20.
