On Saturday, September 16, 2017, the Woodberry Forest cross country teams, both Varsity and JV, competed in the annual Woodberry Forest Cross Country Invitational.  The Varsity Tigers defended their title and defeated the pool of the other seventeen teams racing, notably St. Christopher’s School, Fork Union Military Academy, and Trinity Episcopal.  Coming in second and third were Saint Sebastian Academy and Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School, respectively.

Henry Clark ’19 represents the Tigers

Out of the 140 competitors, Woodberry’s William Rich, Parker Watt, Henry Clark, Henry Singleton, and Ryan Daniels all placed in the top fifty, with new boy fourth former Riley Fletcher being the fastest among the Tigers finishing the 5k in fifth place with a time of 17:42.

Fourth former Ryan Daniels commented, “The team has a history of being really competitive,” and he enjoys the sensation of dominance Woodberry cross country has over Virginia cross country.  As Coach Ben Hale earned the title of most winningest coach in VISAA history last November, it is no surprise that Woodberry Forest defended their home course last Saturday with a win over the most elite cross country teams in the state.
